Q. What type of points is there?
A: The JGANC point system is used for awarding performance points, used for All Stars invitations, and Team points, used for Boys and Girls North Team, and Boys State Junior invitations. For more in depth information please see the Points section of our website under “Points and Rankings”.
Q: A points system favors juniors who can go to more tournaments. Is that fair?
A: Of course, it does give an advantage to those who can play lots of events and/or afford to travel to them. It’s more or less like the PGA or LPGA tour. Pros playing more tournaments will make more money. The reason we can’t limit points for our teams or special events to just a few tournaments is that we have members who are at year-round school and cannot play at certain times of the year. This would mean they lose those points for not playing or miss school to get the chance for points. School is our first priority, and we do not encourage any junior to skip school for golf. It is more equal, fairer to all having all tournaments as points possibilities and providing tournaments throughout the year, summer, spring and winter breaks. To equalize the opportunity for all, stroke average is now a major factor is selecting our teams. This eliminates the factor of the number of tournaments you attend.
Q: If a junior places ahead of me in a tournament and he is not a member of the JGANC, will I move up and get more points?
A: No. Each place is awarded the specified points. Points for places of a non-member are simply not recorded. You receive the points you earned.
Q: I was injured during the summer and could not play in some important tournaments. Will that be taken into consideration when tabulating points?
A: We realize unforeseen things happen during a golfing season; injuries, family vacations, illnesses. Unfortunately, we can’t have exceptions for the many circumstances that come up unexpectedly. Golfers usually call unforeseen circumstances “the rub of the green.” We hope this does not happen to you as we cannot change the rules, points or format because of them.
