TRAVEL TEAMS FAQ

Travel team opportunities generate many questions from aspiring competitors and their families. Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about JGANC travel teams. Reach out to us directly for any additional information you need.

A: The Boys and Girls North Teams are not considered as traveling teams. The Boys and Girls Junior America’s Cup, Mary Cave Cup and Hogan Cup are considered traveling teams. A player can only be selected to play on ONE traveling team. Please note: Acceptable personal conduct will be considered in the selection of these teams. While points are considered, the main focus for team selection is the junior’s stroke average/ranking during the spring tournaments and summer tournaments. Depending on the date of the event, captains agree on setting deadline dates as to the latest date to select the team. Enough time for completing the necessary paperwork, ordering team apparel and making airline reservations must be considered.

A: Team events often require air flights and staying together from 4-7 days. Juniors closer in age have more in common and can easily get along with one another. A younger golfer could feel uncomfortable and out of place. Although not always a guarantee, older juniors are more responsible and handle the situation of travel and team play more easily. There is less “missing home” on these trips. Limiting our teams to certain ages allows more juniors to have the opportunity to play on one of the teams during this age period. Some teams require ages 15-18 of age, others allow 14-18. Check the current age requirement for individual teams.

A: The JGANC pays for transportation and the team dress. The teams are provided with housing and food during the event. Teams are asked to contribute by sometimes providing shorts, slacks and/or a small gift for their host family.
